Dear parents,
My name is Chafik Bakkari and I’m the new teacher at the Islamic studies department. I’m teaching Quran for middle school, and Islamic studies for 3rd graders.
For Quran teaching, the main goal is to help our children build a solid connection with the book of Allah, even after they leave Al-Iman school. The Quran class will not be about memorizing only, but also understanding and implementing.
For Memorization part, Inchallah we’re going to work on three things at the same time: New assignment (verses never memorized before), Review (verses already memorized), and Nearest( verses recently memorized).
Pronunciation and Tajweed are also important, this is why I’m planning inchallah to have an after school program to help student learn Tajweed and correct their pronunciation. For those who don’t know how to read Quran from the Mushaf, I’m going inchallah to have one hour weekly to teach them how to read Arabic from Alif Baa, and that will be after school also.
To reach our goal on the Quran part for middle school, I’ve assessed all students and I’ve had little discussions with them to know what they think about Quran memorization, things keeping them from going forward, and suggestions they have to improve their performance. As a result of that, I’ m going inchallah to work with students on 3 major things: motivation(why we memorize? long and short term benefits), training (how and how much to memorize? realistic goals and professional approach), and planning (when and where to memorize? plan your time right).
Dear parents, your help and assistance is crucial to the learning process. When they come to Quran class all student must have 3 things with them:
1- Own copy of Quran [this has at least 3 benefits: a)build the feeling of ownership and size of the task, b)using the same copy all the time which is good for memorization, c)I'll be underlining, circling or highlighting mistakes so they can fix them later instead of saying the whole assignment again].
2- Assignment Logbook [that’s the best way to keep up with your child progress. For me to know that you’re aware of what your child was asked to do, the assignment Logbook has to be signed.
3- A notebook or folder for Quran class only.
Islamic studies class:
3rd graders are really amazing, I think the elementary staff is doing a great job specially when it comes to class management and behavior, Jazahoumou Allahou Khayran for that. I’ll try to keep up with them, and give the best I can when it comes to what they have to learn, in their age. I’m fully aware of the big responsibility to teach them the sound Aqeedah, the correct way of worship, manners in Islam, the Seerah of our beloved Prophet peace be upon him, and any other Islamic Studies subjects.
